Laim 'Musicians'

Like in the States, there are musician ‘panhandlers’ (not sure if panhandler is the right word, but if you get my meaning then it works) near the train and subway stations, playing instruments with their collection bag in front of them.

Our train station, Laim, is no different. We have seen guitarists (typical) and an accordion player (a bit more rare), but the most interesting one is a woman we see often with her keyboard.

A woman and a keyboard – doesn’t sound so unique. But what makes her special is that she isn’t actually playing it – but she pretends to. And it is the same crappy 4-note tune each time we see her. She hunches over the keyboard, sways her body like she is playing it, and moves her knuckles over the keys. It took a few times passing her before we both realized she IS PRETENDING TO PLAY! Last night we even heard the tune come to an end,and she paused to allow for a gap in the people before she hit the button to start the tune over again and resume her ‘performance’.

Hopefully some of you who will visit us will get to experience this little bit of musical deceit – we sure enjoy it. Except when the tune gets stuck in our heads, which unfortunately is often.
